Warning Signs You Can’t Ignore
Warning Signs You Can’t Ignore
Buying a home? Selecting a surgeon? Trying to tell if she’s true? The FBI’s best profilers are standing by to help you spot, and avoid, big trouble.

trained in observation, investigation, and interpretation. By studying the facts of a case, inspecting forensic evidence, and reviewing law-enforcement witness interviews, profilers can often predict things about an offender long before he’s apprehended. At times, good profilers can appear almost clairvoyant, but it’s actually their highly evolved sense of awareness and deductive reasoning that’s at work.
Douglas and other adept profilers are about to teach you the same skills they honed at the acclaimed behavioral science unit of the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. You don’t have to be a crime victim to take advantage of this knowledge. Most of their techniques can be used to minimize risks that arise in all sorts of everyday situations.
Indeed, in a world that seems more threatening and filled with more people trying to take advantage of you every day, there’s no better time to learn a new way of protecting yourself.
What follows are descriptions of eight situations you may eventually find yourself facing. For each, our team Continue…
The Real Indiana Jones
The Real Indiana JonesBorn in 1867 and disappeared in 1925 while searching for what he called “The Lost City of Z” with his son, Jack, Col. Percy Fawcett is the inspiration for the character Indiana Jones.
True to form, just like the character he inspired, Fawcett had an equal disdain for snakes. According to The Museum of Unnatural Mystery
“Though not poisonous, the giant anaconda is probably the most feared snake in the jungle. Fawcett had a run-in with one not long after he arrived in South America. In his diary he noted: “We were drifting easily along the sluggish current not far below the confluence of the Rio Negro when almost under the bow of the igarit’e [boat] there appeared a triangular head and several feet of undulating body. It was a giant anaconda. I sprang Continue…
5 Ways To Combat Aging
5 Ways To Combat Aging
1. Drink a lot of water
The benefits of drinking water cannot be understated. It is used by the body to flush out toxins and other waste products. Water also is one of the best tools for weight loss, besides assisting in clearing your skin.
Drinking a good amount of water could lower your risks of a heart attack. A six-year study published in the May 1, 2002 American Journal of Epidemiology found that those who drink more than 5 glasses of water a Continue…

In the fight against infection, the human immune system isn’t ready for a war.
Vaccines push the immune system to create defenses against illness, but they take time to work. A new process developed by scientists at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (OMRF) and Emory University stands to revolutionize the process. Continue…
Who needs sex when you can steal DNA?
Who needs sex when you can steal DNA?WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Tiny freshwater organisms that have amazed scientists because of their sex-free lifestyle may have survived so well because they steal genes from other creatures, scientists reported on Thursday.
They found genes from bacteria, fungi and even plants incorporated into the DNA of bdelloid rotifers — minuscule animals that appear to have given up sex 40 million years ago.
“Bdelloid rotifers are small freshwater invertebrates that apparently lack sexual reproduction and can withstand desiccation at any life stage,” Irina Arkhipova and Matthew Meselson of Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts and colleagues wrote in a report in the journal Science. Continue…
A Theory on the Deja Vu Phenomenon
A Theory on the Deja Vu Phenomenon
A physiological explanation of the deja vu phenomenon may exist. The optical and neural paths from the two eyes may be slightly different, or the processing of such signals might be delayed in one path due to some variant structure. Or, alternately, a “newer” and “older” brain processing method might be responsible.
For many years, psychologists have known of the phenomenon of Deja Vu, where a patient is absolutely convinced that a first visit to an area seemed like a place already familiar and known. (Deja vu is different from various similar phenomena such as Precognition [where a person has a premonition of some future event] or Clarivoyance [where a person comes to know about some simultaneous event a long distance away] or assorted other unusual phenomena. Modern science does not have adequate explanations for ANY of these apparent phenomena. I am only considering Deja vu here!
During the time while this web-page has been on the Internet, more than two thousand people (up to Nov 2006) have e-mailed to say that they have Deja Vu experiences. That is interesting, but their descriptions have virtually always described some different phenomenon Continue…My Radioactive Vacation
My Radioactive Vacation

Trinity Site outer perimeter fence In October 1998 I took a vacation to visit the Trinity Site in South-Central New Mexico. This is where the United States exploded the World’s first atomic bomb on July 16, 1945. The site is open to the public two days each year, the 1st Saturday in April and October. Continue…
Weather Proverbs
Weather Proverbs
True or False?
People have been forecasting the weather for centuries. They once looked to plants and animals for hints about what the weather would do. For example, before it rained, some people often observed that ants moved to higher ground, cows lay down, pine cones opened up, frogs croaked more frequently, and sheeps’ wool uncurled. Over the years, people began to notice other natural clues to upcoming weather, and several weather “sayings” grew up over the years. When looking at weather proverbs, keep this in mind: They are usually based on someone’s observations and not on scientific studies. Because climates and weather patterns differ throughout the world, a weather proverb based on observations in one location may not be valid in another location. Some proverbs arose simply from coincidence, not weather patterns, and therefore may seldom hold true. But under certain Continue…
Why Ethanol Production Will Drive World Food Prices Even Higher in 2008
Why Ethanol Production Will Drive World Food Prices Even Higher in 2008We are witnessing the beginning of one of the great tragedies of history. The United States, in a misguided effort to reduce its oil insecurity by converting grain into fuel for cars, is generating global food insecurity on a scale never seen before.
The world is facing the most severe food price inflation in history as grain and soybean prices climb to all-time highs. Wheat trading on the Chicago Board of Trade on December 17th breached the $10 per bushel level for the first time ever. In mid-January, corn was trading over $5 per bushel, close to its historic high. And on January 11th, soybeans traded at $13.42 per bushel, the highest price ever recorded. All these prices are double those of a year or two ago. Continue…
